Elderly man killed by gunmen in Bilin Township

A 66-year-old man was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding assailants near his home in Zwekala village, Bilin Township, Mon State, on January 22, according to local residents.

The man, identified as U Nyan Htun (aka) U Paw, was returning from a nearby village in his car when he was attacked. He had five bullet wounds on his chest and died on the spot. The motive and the identity of the killers are unknown.

On January 4, two people were killed by gunfire in Homalin market area, Kyaikhto township. On January 18, a passenger bus ticket salesperson was shot dead on Yangon-Mawlamyine roadside in Pateinyoe village, Thahton township, Mon State.

On January 19 also, a former village administration official was shot at in Moppalin village, Kyaikhto township, Mon State. The perpetrators and the reasons behind these killings are also unclear.
