Drugs worth K257.1B which will be transported to Rakhine State and Malaysian waters seized in Kungyangon and Shwe Pyithar Townships

The combined team comprising Drug Enforcement Division members inspected the Canter Box driven by Aung Lin and the Subaru Stella vehicle driven by Thaung Tun at the corner of No 4 Highway and Ngakan Road in Shwepyitha Township on 5 August.

During the inspection, the team seized four million stimulant tablets and arrested the person in charge, Tun Thein, together with 17.8 million tablets and a Toyota Rush at No 4 Ward in Shwepyitha Township on the same evening. Stimulant seizures amounted to 21.8 million (valued at K21.8 billion). Moreover, other suspects, Maung Thein Chay and Kyaw Swa Win (Hmawby), were arrested with Porter II and Isuzu Max in Hnawgon village in Hmawby Township on that night.

According to the inspection, the person in charge of transport to Malaysian waters and Rakhine State Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon) and partner Soe Paing Win were also arrested with a Toyota Succeed vehicle in Dawei on 10 August.

On 11 August, another offender, Nyi Nyi Soe Khant, was arrested in Aungzeya village, Kungyangon Township, and seized 1,899 kilogrammes of ketamine (worth K94.95 billion) near the prawn farming pond hidden by Kyaw Swa Win in Aungzeya village, Kungyangon.

On 13 August, the police seized the Aung Soe Lin boat owned by Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon) and arrested another offender, Kyaw Soe Khine, who kept the boat near the Nan Thuza bridge in Myeik, while Ngwe Kathit and Hsu Myat Naing boats purchased by Kan Kaung (still at large) were also seized near the Toe riverbank in Dedaye Township, and the Aung Myat Paing boat and one boat in Latkokgon village in Kungyangon Township.

On 14 August, Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon) confessed that Ice  (methamphetamine) to be distributed to Malaysian waters, was hidden in three different places in Aungzeya and Latkokgon villages and certain roads along Latkokgon-Seleaingon villages in Kungyangon. The police arrested Aung Kyaw (aka) Aung Kyaw Soe, Yar Kyaw (aka) Ko Shine and Kyaw Sein Aung (aka) Kyaw Gyi from Wetkite village and seized 5,614.2 kilogrammes of Ice (worth K140.355 billion).

On 15 August, Min Chit Aung, who kept Ice with Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon), was arrested in Dagon Myothit (South) Township.

The main holder in storing illegal drugs in Yangon and distributing to Rakhine State and overseas is Sai Su (still at large) from Wanhaing village in Kehsi Township. Under his instruction, Hla Thaung (still at large) and Sai Yi (still at large) kept drugs in Yangon, and the person in charge of carrying from Rakhine State to the Myanmar-Bangladesh border is Tun Thein. The person in charge of carrying drugs from Yangon to Myebon is Win Zaw Thein (still at large), and the carrier from Rakhine State to the Bangladesh border area is Win Khine (still at large).

When the stimulant tablets arrive at Win Khine in Myebon, they have to pay tax K300,000 for every 10,000 tablets to pass through Rakhine State to Ko Yay (still at large), a Major-level member of the AA terrorist group.

The instructor to transport the Ice from Yangon to Malaysia via sea was Kan Kaung (still at large) from Lashio, and Min Chit Aung kept the Ice with Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon) three times. Moreover, Kyaw Swa Win (Kungyangon) distributed drugs to Malaysia under the arrangement of Kyi Pyu (aka) Kyaw Win Htay using the boats bought by Kan Kaung (still at large). Chit Ko (still at large) and Ko Latt (still at large) distributed drugs three times from Yangon to the mouth of the sea and four times from Kawthoung to the Malacca Strait. Kyi Phyu (aka) Kyaw Win Htay was sentenced to life in prison on 29 July 2025 for possession of Ice weighing 1.29 tonnes, 1.87 tonnes of ketamine and 1.6 million stimulant tablets in Kawthoung.

The 13 arrestees and nine offenders, who are still at large, are charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Investigations are underway to arrest the remaining offenders.
