Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi said that consideration should be given to developing a system that promotes friendship among ethnic groups and contributes to peace by incorporating ethnic languages into the education system, beginning at the basic education level, during a meeting with members of the Education Promotion Committee at the Hluttaw Affairs Building (I-13) on July 8. Officials from the Pyithu Hluttaw Office also attended the meeting.

The Speaker said the committee had prepared its objectives, future plans, and strategic goals in detail. He noted that the work of the Hluttaw is extensive and that committees play a vital role in supporting its functions. Describing the committees as the pillars of the Hluttaw, he said the institution's effectiveness and progress depend largely on their performance. Stressing the importance of education to national development, he urged the Education Promotion Committee to take a comprehensive approach in carrying out its responsibilities and to strengthen the foundations of the basic education system.

He said the committee oversees nine existing laws related to education and would review them to determine priorities for amendment. Among them, the 2014 National Education Law would be reviewed and updated to align with current circumstances. He added that the State is giving priority to ensuring access to education for all school-age children, while the Hluttaw has been raising questions and submitting proposals to conduct school surveys so that children who have dropped out or are not enrolled can continue their education. He also emphasized the need to jointly promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), describing it as a vital link between education and employment that is essential for the country's development.

The Speaker reiterated that incorporating ethnic languages into basic education should be considered as a way to foster friendship among ethnic groups and support peace. He welcomed the committee's efforts to draft comprehensive legislation covering both teachers' rights and benefits and measures to address violence in schools. He also called on the Hluttaw to work together with the State to advance the education sector to a higher level and urged the Education Promotion Committee to carefully assess the current situation and implement the most appropriate and effective measures with due sensitivity.
