
Volunteers from the fever clinics in Yangon Region and health staff participating in the ongoing civil disobedience movement (CDM) are providing medical cover in crowded places with the help of ambulances, said Dr Kyaw Min Tun, in-charge of the Community Fever Clinic.
“We doctors from the fever clinics and ambulances are working together providing medical in several places of Yangon. Other groups including ambulances from the EMS of Yangon General Hospital. There are doctors to take care of patients. If any need arises, we transfer emergency patients to private hospitals or people’s hospitals. The emergency wards from those hospitals are cooperating with us. Presently, we are transferring patients mostly to private hospitals,” Dr Kyaw Min Tun said.
Mass protests are occurring in various regions across Myanmar including Yangon and Mandalay. Civil servants from the various ministries in Nay Pyi Taw are staging protests and joining the CDM.
“We are providing medical cover mainly for protestors and then for emergency patients and those needing to go to hospital. Ambulances are placed in crowded places such as Hledan, Myanigon and Tamway for example. Help can be sought from any ambulance. Some ambulances have doctors and skilled Red Cross Society members,” said DrKyaw Min Tun.
Staff from the private hospital SSC also staged a protest on February 10 in front of the hospital chanting slogans.
Likewise, nurses from the Eye Hospital on Kandawgyi circular road also joined the CDM on February 10 shouting slogans “Don’t go to work” and “Reject the military coup”.
Despite the ban on gatherings in Yangon Region, protestors from various townships staged protests marching to the Sule Pagoda in the city center on February 10.
Protestors also used cars and motorbikes in their protests.
