The Ministry of Electricity and Energy has announced the fees for new Digital Smart Meters for residential, commercial and industrial use, with residential meters starting at Ks.250,000.
People who do not yet have electricity meters but wish to obtain electricity connections for their homes, businesses or industrial operations will be able to apply for new Digital Smart Meters through the ministry’s website from August 15, 2026, according to the ministry.
The online application system is aimed at enabling applicants to obtain meters more quickly while reducing the time and expenses involved. It is also intended to prevent the involvement of intermediaries and officials in the application process, the ministry said.
For applications that meet the department’s requirements, applicants will be required to pay the prescribed fees, including supervision, wiring and connection charges. The ministry said the applicable rates remain unchanged.
The fee for a residential meter is Ks.250,000, while residential power meters cost Ks.1 million for 10 kW, K1.23 million for 20 kW and K1.46 million for 30 kW.
For industrial power meters, the fees are K1.0775 million for 10 kW, K1.3825 million for 20 kW and K1.6875 million for 30 kW.
