Government offices and all 79 flood-affected schools in Ayeyawady Region's Laymyethna Township have reopened after nearly two months of severe inundation. However, cleanup and recovery efforts remain incomplete amid a critical shortage of relief aid, drinking water, and electricity.
While primary operations have resumed, basic infrastructure remains crippled. Local volunteer groups report that many wells are still flooded with mud, leaving residents in dire need of clean water, while power outages persist.
Relief organizations, which initially provided emergency rescue and thousands of gallons of purified water, are now facing severe donor fatigue and depleted funding. With disaster response resources shifting to emergencies in other regions, local rescue networks warn they are struggling to sustain ongoing rehabilitation support for the township.
