Deputy Minister for Construction U Myo Myint said rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts should extend beyond rebuilding physical infrastructure to include the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), cooperative systems, and the agriculture and livestock sectors.
The Deputy Minister, accompanied by the Chin State Government's Minister for Municipal Development, members of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee, the working committee and departmental officials, inspected government offices and staff housing in Falam, Chin State, on July 22.
During the visit, the delegation inspected several government offices, including the Fire Services Department, the District Rural Development Department and the District Development Supervision Office, as well as residential quarters for government employees.
According to officials, 38 government department offices have resumed operations in Falam Township, with 1,397 officials and staff, including health and education personnel, carrying out their duties. Across Falam, Tedim and Tonzang townships, a total of 110 government department offices are currently operating with 4,003 officials and staff, including healthcare and education workers.
Later, the Deputy Minister chaired a coordination meeting with district- and township-level departmental officials on Falam's rehabilitation and reconstruction programme. He stressed that all government departments should work together in their respective sectors to ensure the success of the rebuilding process. He said reconstruction should not be limited to repairing and rebuilding government offices, hospitals, schools and other public facilities, but should also focus on strengthening MSMEs, cooperative systems, and the agriculture and livestock sectors to support long-term economic recovery. The Deputy Minister added that the delegation had conducted extensive field inspections across Chin State to assess conditions at the grassroots level, and that priority rehabilitation and reconstruction projects are being implemented in phases. He also noted that rehabilitation and reconstruction committees have already been established at the state, district and township levels, urging officials who are not committee members to actively cooperate in the development of Falam.
During the meeting, district- and township-level working committee members and departmental officials presented progress reports and outlined sector-wise plans for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Falam.
On July 23, the Deputy Minister, together with the Chin State Government's Minister for Municipal Development and members of the state rehabilitation and reconstruction committees, visited the Border Area Ethnic Youth Development Training School in Falam. The delegation also attended a briefing at the District General Administration Department office on the phased renovation and reconstruction of buildings.
The Border Area Ethnic Youth Development Training School (Falam) was temporarily established in 2003 at the Theravada Missionary Centre School in Falam before relocating in 2004 to a 7.451-acre site in Kyin Mwar Ward. The school provides education and training for students from middle school through high school level.
