Sittwe – More IDPs have arrived in IDP camps in Rakhine State and he is worried about the possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the IDP camps, said MP Maung Maung.

About 5,000 more IDPs came to Kyauktaw in recent days and the authorities are concerned about their situation in the IDP camps as they are living in groups.

“If someone is infected with the COVID-19, it will be infected to others. Some of them have come back from China. So we are preparing for it. We are helping them to follow hygiene practice,” said MP Maung Than Sein of Kyauktaw Constituency.

The second 13th regular session of Rakhine State parliament is postponed on March 24 as COVID-19 cases are found in Myanmar and the day to hold the parliament session will be announced.

Speaker of Rakhine State parliament said, “He is worried about locals in northern Rakhine State and Paletwa as internet access was being cut off and he is extremely worried about over 150,000 IDPs living in IDP camps.”
