Myanmar's Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of the COVID-19 provided cash assistance to needy citizens as part of the COVID-19 economic relief plan. Now it is the fourth time and there were complaints and disputes occurred. In order to solve these disputes, instructions have been given to open complaint centers according to Zaw Htay, spokesman of the president office.
Some protests occurred because of not receiving government assistances and moreover, needy people who should get the assistance were denied. Concerning the current disputes and complaints, he said that township level complaint centers were opened since November 16 and order has been given to issue phone numbers to make complaint. District level has to closely supervise the complaints and negotiations that will be settled in the township level and to submit the cases to respective Region/State government timely.
In the 4th assistance he government used 164 billion kyats to provide to a total of 6.1 million households. Those living in the stay at home areas will be given Ks.40, 000 for each household. There are 2.1 million households in the stay at home areas. Outside of the stay at home areas will be provided Ks.20, 000 each household. There are 4 million households at the outside of the stay at home areas, according to the spokesman.
For the 4th assistance, Kayan State, Taninthayi Region got 100 percent of assistance while Kachin and Kayin States and Ayeyawaddy Region got over 80 percent, Nay Pyi Taw, Chin State and Sagaing, Bago, Magway and Mandalay Region receive receive over 70 percent, Yangon got over 65 percent, Shan, Rakhine and Mon States receive below 50 percent according to the spokesman.
The first government assistance was provided in April to June to 5.4 million households using Ks.72 billion , the second in July and August to 5.4 million households using Ks.218.3 billion, the third in September to 5.7 million households using Ks.113.9 billion.
