In response to circulating information on social media, MAI and Mingalar Airlines have officially denied the accuracy of these reports. According to their official statement, the closure of their ticket office in Mandalay, effective September 1, 2024, is due to the increased presence of official ticket agents and the growing trend of passengers purchasing tickets directly through online platforms.
The airlines emphasized that they will continue to provide efficient services through online platforms and authorized ticket agents. The statement clarified that the information spreading on social media regarding the closure of the Mandalay office is completely false.
For ticket purchases and general inquiries, passengers can still visit the ticket office at Mandalay International Airport. Tickets can also be purchased directly from the official websites, www.maiair.com and www.mingalaraviation.com. Additionally, authorized ticket agents in Mandalay and the hotline number +950196 70007 are available for assistance.
An official from Myanmar Airways International (MAI) and Mingalar Airlines confirmed on August 30 to The Daily Eleven that their ticket office in Mandalay will officially close on September 1. The decision comes as a result of a significant increase in the number of authorized ticket agents in Mandalay and a growing trend of passengers purchasing tickets directly through online platforms.
MAI, in collaboration with Mingalar Airlines, continues to operate weekly domestic flights from Mandalay to major cities across Myanmar, including Yangon, Tachileik, Kyaingtong, Myitkyina, Putao, Homalin, and Kalay. In addition, daily international flights are maintained to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports in Thailand.
Despite rumors circulating on social media claiming the suspension of domestic flights from Mandalay, officials have assured that flights are operating as usual. These rumors also include false reports that flights departing from and arriving in Mandalay were canceled on August 9, which the airlines have refuted.
The five major domestic airlines—Myanmar National Airlines, MAI, Mingalar, Air Thanlwin, and Mann Yadanarpon Airlines—continue to operate regular flights from both Yangon and Mandalay, ensuring the continued availability of air travel across the country.
