Fighting has been going on daily in Chaung Nakwa Village and nearby villages in Kyaikmaraw Township since November 10, tens of thousands of locals have been forced to flee, and there are also people trapped inside the villages, according to locals and those helping refugees.
"Those who are trapped in Chaung Nakwa, Mayangone and Bayargone villages can't even go out of the villages, so they have to save on what they have and eat. Also, the shops are all closed, and it's becoming difficult to get food," said a resident of Chaung Nakwa.
He continued, "The rice is still there. But I don't know how long the fighting will last. Some of them want to leave the village, but they can't. There is such a situation."
The resident also said that until the evening of November 16, there were shootings in the village of Chaung Nakwa and nearby villages.
According to locals, the Mudon-Kyunywa-Taungkalay-Chaung Nakwa-Kya in Seikkyi road starting from Kyunywa Village is still blocked due to the fighting in Kyaikmaraw Township's Chaung Nakwa Village and surrounding areas.
Due to the ongoing fighting in Kyaikmaraw Township, thousands of locals from eight villages are fleeing the war, said a person helping refugees.
He continued, "Those fleeing the war go to the homes of close relatives and monasteries. Mostly, there are many people fleeing towards Mudon Township. There are many people who are staying away from the Naut Kyun Village."
He said that the people trapped in the villages where the fighting is going on may have difficulty to obtain food and that there are also migrant workers.
As a result of the ongoing fighting in Kyaikmaraw Township, 35 basic education schools in Chaung Nakwa Village and the surrounding villages have been temporarily closed.
