Chairman of SAC and Belarusian President meet to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Presidential Palace in Belarus on March 7. The two leaders held discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation between their countries.

The two countries signed memorandums of understanding for cooperation in the fields of sports, tourism, legal affairs, and agriculture and food safety.

Upon the arrival of the Myanmar delegation, led by the SAC Chairman, at the Presidential Palace, they were welcomed with a guard of honor by the Belarusian President. During their private meeting, President Lukashenko expressed confidence that this engagement would further strengthen bilateral cooperation. He emphasized the commitment of both nations to fostering closer ties and advancing strategic partnerships.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing noted that this was his second visit to Belarus, where he had personally observed the country’s development progress. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception and extended his congratulations to President Lukashenko on his recent electoral victory. Reflecting on his previous visit, he acknowledged Belarus’s achievements in agriculture and reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to expanding collaboration in various sectors. He also highlighted the successful hosting of the Myanmar-Belarus Economic Forum, which facilitated trade agreements between the two nations.

During the discussions, both sides explored avenues for strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, industry, education, science and technology, culture, and sports. Defense cooperation was also discussed, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of enhancing military collaboration. The meeting further covered trade and investment opportunities, with a focus on boosting bilateral economic ties.

Later in the day, a high-level meeting led by the SAC Chairman and the Belarusian President took place at the Presidential Palace, attended by key officials from both countries. The discussions reaffirmed Myanmar and Belarus as longstanding diplomatic partners with a shared commitment to deepening cooperation.

During this visit, the two governments signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering collaboration in sports, tourism, legal affairs, agriculture, and food safety. Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, U Than Swe, and Belarusian Foreign Minister, Maksim Ryzhenkov, formally exchanged the signed agreements.

Additionally, the SAC Chairman held separate meetings with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Alexandreovich Golovchenko and Speaker of the House of Representatives Igor Petrovich  Sergeenko to discuss bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors.

This visit marks another step toward strengthening Myanmar-Belarus relations through strategic partnerships, economic collaboration, and diplomatic engagement.
