Border trade volume is reached about US$1.8 billion from October 1 to November 29 in this fiscal year and it is more than US$500 million in compared with the same period in last year, according to Ministry of Commerce.
Myanmar earned US$1.288 billion from border trade in the same period in last fiscal year.
It earned over US$1 billion from Muse border trade center in this period and it is more than US$430 million in compared with the same period in last year.
Border trade centers in Myanmar are Muse, Lweje, Chinshwehaw, Kanpikete, Kengtong, Techilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Nabule/Htikhi, Mawtaung, Maese, Sittwe, Maungdaw, Tamu, Reik, Htantalan and Kyainglek.
Myanmar is expecting to earn US$34 billion from trade sector in 2019-20 FY and export amount may reach up to US$18 billion, said Dr Than Myint, Minister for Commerce during a media session of Myanmar Entrepreneurship Summit 2019 held at Fortune Plaza on November 16.
“We need to increase the quality of trade in addition to trade volume to improve trade sector and need to import more capital goods to provide assistance for long term economy development in import sector,” said Dr Than Myint.
