Ahead of the 2020 General Election which will be held on November 8 (Sunday), a bomb blast occurred at the compound of Bago Regions sub-election commission office on November 6 at 2:45 am.

In the office compound, the district and township sub-election commission offices were also located and were preparing for the 2020 General Election when the blast happened.

“I heard a loud noise and was very frightened. When I went out, I saw black smoke. What I thought was that it was a lightning strike as it was raining at that time. My house shook from that sound,” said Khin Khin Than, who lives next door to the region sub-commission office.

After the explosion, police officials from Region and State level came and inspected the scene.

It was assumed as a time bomb. There is no causality because of the blast. It was placed there intentionally to blast the bomb. The perpetrator could have arrived as someone pretending to send documents to the office and placed it in the box,” said Min Thet Naung, secretary of Bago Region sub-election commission.
