The body of a 78-year-old man was found in the Inya Lake on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road on the night of August 13, according to the Metta Thida Yay Sin Social Rescue Association.
A member of the Metta Thida Yay Sin Social Rescue Association said that the body of the 78-year-old man found in the Inya Lake on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road was transported to North Okkalapa General Hospital.
A member of the Metta Thida Yay Sin Social Rescue Association said, “Yesterday at 10 pm, we transported the dead body of a man aged 78 or 79 from Mya Kyun Thar to North Okkalapa General Hospital. We have also contacted his family members.”
The elderly man who died in Inya Lake was suffering from a chronic illness.
The relevant police are investigating the incident.
The deceased has been identified as U Aye Thein, 78, a former Arakan National Party (ANP) member of the Sittway Township for State Hluttaw.
U Aye Thein was suffering from prostate cancer and was undergoing treatment in Yangon. His family filed a missing person report after he went missing on August 13.
“He had been suffering from cancer for a long time. He was undergoing treatment in Yangon. It is learnt that he was discharged from the hospital only a few days ago. Yesterday, his family found him missing. It is learnt that he left home at around 3 pm. We have not asked the family why he died. They are also grieving. I am also very sad. We were colleagues who worked together to campaign for the 2020 election. I am saddened by his passing,” said U Htun Aung Kyaw, a former member of the Pyithu Hluttaw for the ANP.
U Aye Thein is also the former ANP chairman of the Sittway Township. He was elected as a state parliament representative in the 2015 election. He did not contest the 2020 election and only worked on organizing activities for the ANP.
