An explosion occurred in the compound of a basic education high school in Kyaikkatha Village, Kyaikhto Township, Mon State, at about 1 am on June 1, local sources say.
When authorities went to the school after hearing the explosion, they found what was assumed to be a type 91 grenade exploded about three feet before the grade-7 classroom between two school buildings. A windshield glass on the ceiling was cracked by the explosion.
At about 5.30 pm on May 30 also, a hand grenade blew off at the basic education high school in Ingabo Village of the same township. No one was hurt or no property damaged in the explosion. However, another undetonated grenade was discovered, local residents said.
At about 8 pm on the same day also, a fire broke out at a middle school in Myoma 1 Ward in Mudon, Mon State, burning down the school head’s office, locals said.
