People's Pioneer Party (PPP) chair Dr Thet Thet Khine say that she was barred from observing at some polling stations in Mayangone Township.

She wanted to observe how things were at polling stations in her constituency, as per her rights as a candidate, on November 8 but some stations asked her to leave.

"The main thing is that there are a lot of staffs here in Mayangone (1) ward. I don't want to be a bother to voters so I was observing where from a non-crowded place. In reality, I can show the commission this card and get into the polling station. So when the coast was clear, we went in and observed. The commission staff asked the station chief whether we were able to and subsequently said no. We were observing only where observers were supposed to be and we weren't observers. Since we are candidates, we have the right to observe as per section 48(b) of the election law because we are candidates. UEC had issued cards for that very purpose. We don't talk to anyone. We were just looking and still they tell us that we cannot. Whether or not they were ordered to, we are doing so in accord with the law.

The aforementioned bit of election law allows commission members, voters, police officers or commission members on security duty, those allowed under section 42, commission and related organization members, candidates from each respective constituencies, polling station party representatives and other special representatives as well as UEC recognized election obsevers, to enter the polling station.

News reporter from The Daily Eleven also witnessed that polling stations in Mayangone Township were not able to abide by Social Distancing rules issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

PPP chair Dr Thet Thet Khine is competing for a Pyitthu Hluttaw seat for the Mayangone Township in the 2020 election.
