About 2.32 million local and foreign visitors came to the Bagan ancient cultural region from January to December 25, 2023, and nearly 80 percent of rooms in hotels, motels and inns have already been booked for New Year Holiday. 

After the COVID-19 pandemic, 1.08 million visitors visited Bagan in 2022, and 2.32 million local and foreign visitors visited the Bagan ancient cultural region from January to December 25, 2023. Compared with the previous year, the numbers of visitors have doubled. Nearly 80 percent of rooms in hotels, motels and inns are already booked for the coming New Year Holiday according to Department of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch).

“In Bagan, 89 hotels were re-opened, and a total of 472,375 visitors including foreign and local visitors visited from January to December 25. In Shwezigon Pagoda, 2329287 visitors, in Bupaya pagoda, 100097 visitors, in Lawka Nanda Pagoda, 786631 visitors, visited. In Poppa trip, 200922 visitors visited,” said assistant-director U Myo Min Aung from Department of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch).

“About 1.08 million visitors visited Bagan in 2022, and 2.32 million local and foreign visitors visited Bagan ancient cultural region from January to December 25, 2023. Compare with the previous year, the numbers of visitors have doubled. The most visited pagodas this year are Myinkaba Gubyaukgyi pagoda, Abeyadana Pagoda, Soe Min Gyi, Min Nan Thu Pagoda where there are loads of ancient mural paintings and beautiful scenery for taking photos. Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has created seven new destinations in Bagan. For example, visitors can view breathtaking sunset view from Kyaukhmaw Pagoda. Then, visitors can visit Ziohla, Kyauk Yekan, Mankyee Koebin, Setsetyo and Thaepyin villages. Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is also giving training to provide better services to visitors,” added assistant-director U Myo Min Aung.
