According to a population census taken for 2020 general election, Ayeyawady Region has 4.375 million eligible voters, but no permission was granted to make voter lists from polling booths in the military areas, sources from Ayeyawady Region Election Sub-commission say.

The inability to collect population data from military areas was reportedly for security reasons. Therefore, the election sub-commission will ask for voter lists from the military areas as per the instruction of the Union Election Commission.

"They are polling stations in military areas. There are a lot in Pathein. We cannot make lists there. Under the instruction of the UEC, we will inform the military about this. Military polling stations must be the same as ours. They will give us lists. Their voter lists will be announced in their own places," said Aung Myint, chairman of Ayeyawady Region Election Sub-commission.

He said the number of voters lists could not be said exactly because voter lists from military areas are not included.

He added that there will be more voters than in 2015 general election. He said there will be 5,773 polling stations.

It is reported that Ayeyawady Region has difficulty making voter lists as its people have migrated to other places for work.
