Australian citizen Sean Turner in good health, Dr Zaw Myint Maung at prison hospital for previous illnesses: SAC spokesperson

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung who had served as the chief minister of Mandalay Region, is being given treatment by medical specialists in the prison hospital for the previous illnesses he was suffering from. His health is not too good, said Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun, leader of the State Administration Council information team and deputy minister for information. 

 At a press conference of the information team at the Ministry of Information on August 27 in Nay Pyi Taw Mag Gen Zaw Min Tun replied as above to the question raised by The Daily Eleven regarding the health conditions of Dr Zaw Myint Maung, U Soe Win, who had served as Minister for Planning and Finance, and Australian citizen Mr Sean Penn Turner, all under custody.

Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun said, "As far as I know Dr Zaw Myint Maung has been suffering from his previous illnesses. I can say that there are hospitals in the prisons concerned. We have already given him permission to consult with and take treatment from specialists. I can say that his illness is not too good".

 Dr Zaw Myint Maung was booked under section 505(b) and under section 25, and is being investigated in Obo prison special court.

 Likewise to the question posed regarding the health condition of U Soe Win, who had served as Union Minister, Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun replied that he did not know, and that he would enquire and reply.

  He said that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,  former Planning and Finance Union Minister U Soe Win, U Set Aung, deputy minister of that ministry who had been booked under Myanmar Secret Act clause 3(1)(c)/9, and Australian citizen Sean Turner, economic adviser during NLD government, who had also been booked, were in good health.

 To the question posed regarding the health of Australian citizen Sean Turner,  Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun replied that his health was good, and that there was nothing to say about that.

 COVID-19 vaccinations are being administered in prisons in Myanmar, and the picture of Sean Turner in custody in Insein prison being given vaccine was published at the end of the month of July.
