NAYPYITAW-The first conference of the Arakan National Party (ANP) will be held in early May, said ANP’s General Secretary Tun Aung Kyaw yesterday.

He also said that the party is now holding Township Level conferences. They will hold the Central Committee Meeting with the aim to designate the location of the conference and agendas.

Under the leadership of Rakhine Thahaya Association (Yangon) and in accordance with wishes of the Arakanese people, the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) led by Dr Aye Thar Aung and Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP) led by Dr Aye Maung had agreed to merge into a single part (ANP) on May 16 of 2013 and the party was founded on January 13 of 2014.

However, the ALD announced a statement on August 23rd saying that cooperation between ALD and RNDP officially had been suspended since the beginning of July 18th, 2017.

“As for ANP, it is the first conference of ANP and it will be held in  May,” said Tun Aung Kyaw.

During the conference, the Central Executive Committee members including the Chairman will be chosen and the party’s conference will be held again after five years. Moreover, plans are underway to select five delegates in the township aiming to attend the first conference, according to the Tun Aung Kyaw.
