All crew members of Malaysia cargo ship carrying oil are kept in 14-day quarantine at Myeik port, sources said.
The cargo ship left Penang port, Malaysia and docked at Myeik port on March 29. All crew members are not allowed to land and a group led by the township administrator checked their health. They are kept in 14-day quarantine at Ayeyeikchaung Maharsie Sarsana Yeikthar Monastery.
“There are 17 crew members and we have been informed about the cargo ship on March 30. All crew members except four crews are left on the ship to unload the oil. They are quarantined on the ship,” said Win Thu Aung, Administrator of Myeik Township.
All crew members are Myanmar citizens and imported oil from Malaysia.
At present, all returnees and foreigners are kept in 14-day quarantine at Myeik.
“Government departments, CSOs in Myeik, NGOs and the authorities are cooperating and we need the cooperating from people especially. We urged the respective organizations to inform about the returnees and foreigners. Some are worried about the quarantine period and didn’t inform about their return. They don’t need to worry about home quarantine. We kept them in home quarantine for their benefit,” he said.
The authorities prepared a building in Ayeyeikchaung Maharsie Sarsana Yeikthar Monastery in Myeik for people to quarantine and if needed, they will be kept in universities.
