A magnitude 5.1 aftershock struck near Wundwin on the evening of January 15, with tremors felt in Wundwin, Mandalay, and Sagaing, according to local residents.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that the aftershock occurred at 6:42 pm, with its epicenter located about five miles northeast of Wundwin at a depth of 34 kilometers.

Residents in several areas said the quake was clearly felt. A Sagaing resident said the shaking lasted longer than usual but was less intense than the previous earthquake, describing the movement as a north–south motion.

The department said the quake was the 263rd aftershock recorded following the earlier seismic activity.

Social media users from Wundwin reported strong shaking, with some saying houses vibrated noticeably. One resident wrote that people rushed out of their homes in fear as the tremor lasted for a considerable duration.

No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been confirmed.
