It is learned that 77 Myanmar nationals were repatriated from Thailand to Kawthaung via Ranong.
On January 5, 77 Myanmar migrant workers who had completed their sentences in Ranong, Thailand, were repatriated to Kawthaung, Myanmar. According to local sources, these Myanmar nationals had been serving sentences in Thailand for various reasons. After being detained at the Immigration Detention Center of the Ranong District Immigration Police Station in Ranong, Thailand, they were transferred to the Myanmar side.
The repatriation was carried out by water transport. The group consisted of 64 men and 13 women, totaling 77 people, who were handed over using six motorized boats by U Aung Soe Than, the Labor Attaché based in Ranong.
Upon their arrival, the returnees were received by U Ye Zar Ni, Deputy Head of the Township Management and Administration Committee, along with responsible officials. The authorities conducted COVID-19 health screenings, collected personal information, and checked whether any individuals were on blacklists, wanted for human trafficking offenses, victims of human trafficking, or fugitives. Arrangements were then made to enable them to return to their respective hometowns.
