67 countries allowed visa on arrival

Myanmar has so far allowed visa on arrival for 67 countries so travellers can enter the country through international airports in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, according to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population. 

The ministry has first allowed visa on arrival for people from 54 countries who entered Myanmar with tourist visa, business visa, visas related to training courses, meetings and research work, transit visa or crew visa. Transit visa is allowed for China, Italy, Australia, Germany, India, Spain, Switzerland, and Russia. Starting from January 1 this year also, visa on arrival has been allowed for visa on arrival. 

"Currently, 67 countries have been allowed transit visa and visa on arrival. As of January 1, 2020, we have allowed visa on arrival for Austria, Hungary, New Zealand, Chez and Luxemburg," said a ministry official. 

Since October 1, 2018, free visa has been permitted to tourists from Japan and South Korea and visa on arrival to foreign tourists from China, including Hong Kong and Macao. 

Tourists from those countries can stay in Myanmar for 30 days and visa extension is not allowed. 

For travellers from South Korea and Japan can enter Myanmar with visa on arrival through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports as well as through border points of entry. 

Chinese tourists, including those from Hong Kong and Macao were allowed to apply for a visa on arrival today (January 22). A tourist will be charged US$50 for visa fee. Visa extension is not allowed. 

Chinese citizens can apply for a visa on arrival at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports where more visa counters have been opened. 

Till October 28, 2019, thirteen Chinese airlines operate flights between Yangon and 18 cities of China, and more airlines are asking for permission to operate, according to the Civil Aviation Department.
