A total of 61 foreign nationals, including 39 Chinese citizens, were transferred from Shwe Kokko, Myanmar, to Thailand on the afternoon of February 6, according to reports.
Authorities transported the group via the Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 2, where Thai military personnel received them at the midpoint of the bridge. The Thai Deputy Minister inspected the handover process and addressed necessary arrangements.
The transfer was coordinated through the Thailand-Myanmar Border Committee (TBC) and the Border Guard Force (BGF). Among the 61 individuals, believed to be victims of human trafficking, were five Indonesians, 13 Indians, and one citizen each from Ethiopia, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan.
This marks the second repatriation of trafficked individuals through the Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge. According to Thailand’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM), authorities will review each case before facilitating their return to their respective home countries under the directive of the Thai Deputy Minister.
