Some private hospitals and laboratories have been permitted to test and treat Covid-19 patients and there are 39 people receiving treatment there, said Professor Dr Zaw Wai Soe, vice chair of Yangon Region Coordination Committee for Covid-19 Prevention, Control and Treatment. 

“The ministry of health and sports and the Yangon Region government are giving permission to private hospitals to undergo Covid-19 tests and treat patients. In the previous week, those private hospitals had over 70 patients. But on January 26, there were only 39 patients. That means Covid-19 cases in the private hospital sector are also dropping,” the professor said. 

Like public hospitals and treatment centers, the military-run Covid-19 treatment centers are also seeing cases fall with no civilian cases, he added. 

“Previously, the treatment centers of the military were treating civilian patients. Now, they have no more. Union Minister U Myint Htwe himself chaired a meeting on January 16 to review our Covid-19 treatment measures and discuss future tasks. We adopted short- and long-term projects after review,” Dr Zaw Wai Soe said. 

Before granting permission, officials from the medical services department under the ministry of health and sports made field trips to inspect the private hospitals in Yangon and Mandalay regions.
