Myanmar has seen 3.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine arrive and 28 million more doses are due to arrive, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, also chairman of the State Administration Council, during his Myanmar New Year Day message on April 17.

“Constant measures are being taken for Covid-19 prevention and treatment for our national people. In the vaccination process, over 15 million people will receive jabs of Covid-19 vaccines from India, China and Russia in three priority stages and five groups. So far, 3.5 million doses have arrived and 28 million more will be coming. We will emphasize prevention and control measures for the people,” the military chief said.

Under a Covax programme, over 238 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine will be distributed to various global countries before June, and Myanmar is among the countries due to receive over 3 million, the Covax group has already announced.

Vaccinations are ongoing in various global countries, especially in rich ones. But some poor countries have not received a single vaccine, the group said.

According to its announcement on March 2, a first batch of Covid-19 vaccines will be transported to 142 countries on May 31. The countries that will receive over 10 million doses are Pakistan, Nigeria, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Brazil. The second priority countries are Ethiopia, Congo, Mexico, Egypt and Vietnam.
