According to reports from Thailand, 24 Myanmar nationals were arrested by Thai authorities for illegally entering the country.

The arrests took place in the early hours of January 27 in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. Thai police, in coordination with intelligence officers, apprehended the individuals at a local coffee shop in Village No. 1.

Sources indicate that the detained Myanmar nationals were attempting to flee military conscription in their home country with the assistance of brokers. A humanitarian aid worker based at the border reported that a significant number of young people from Myanmar were gathering in Phaya Thonezu, a Myanmar border town, seeking to cross into Thailand.

Among those arrested at the coffee shop were 12 individuals: four females aged between 16 and 22, seven males aged 19 to 34, and one 41-year-old man, according to police records.

In a separate incident on January 25, Thai security forces detained another group of 12 young Myanmar nationals at a checkpoint between Phaya Thonezu and Thong Pha Phum.

Authorities continue to monitor illegal crossings along the Myanmar-Thailand border as migration surges amid ongoing political and economic instability in Myanmar.
