The opening ceremony of 19th ASEAN University Games was held at Wunna Theikdi Stadium-B in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on December 10.

The opening ceremony started with the entertainments of singers. Contending countries took positions on the pitch. Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe, Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee for 19th ASEAN University Games explained salient points of the Games.

Vice-President Myint Swe made an opening speech on the occasion. Dr Dato Hassan Basri, Chairman of 19th ASEAN University Games, spoke words of thanks. 

Next, the athletes relayed the Torch Light. Then some 437 students from Yangon and Mandalay National Culture and Arts Universities did performances. 

Myanmar hosted the 19th ASEAN University Games for the first time. It is being held in Nay Pyi Taw from December 8 to 19.  More than 2000 athletes from 11 countries are taking part in the games. 

Myanmar is comprised of 353 players and 104 coaching members. A total of 17 games were inserted into the tournament. A total of 201 gold medals will be awarded. Myanmar hopes to win at least 40 gold medals.
