MYEIK-The 20-day long second time rising water of Taninthayi River has an effect on more than 4000 people closes down 19 schools, according to the sources.

As torrential rain poured in the upper part of Taninthayi River, many villages faced the second flooding.

The first flooding occurred in August and the water level in the Taninthayi River exceeded over its danger mark 24-ft.

Although the water level decreased after August 12th, the river was swollen as second time since the beginning of August 17th.

“The water level is 21-ft and 2 inches. It may increase because the heavy rain is still pouring. 19 schools have been closed until September 5th. It is over 20 days long flooding. We are going to fill the school hours to make up for the lessons missed. Now, 8 flood relief camps are being opened and nearly 2,000 victims are taking shelter there. The number may increase. Now, there are over 4,000 flood victims in the 19 villages,” said MP Ye Myint Swe from Taninthayi Region.

He also worried about the students because schools were closed over 20 days.

The danger mark of Taninthayi River is 17-ft. If river will exceed its danger mark by 24-ft, Yangon-Myeik-Taninthayi-Kawttaung Union Road will be flooded and the transportation access will cut out.
