18 killed, 32 injured in Myawady car accident

Eighteen passengers were killed and 32 others, injured in a head-on collision on the Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Highway in Kayin State, yesterday.

A highway passenger bus carrying 45 passengers fell into a 150-deep ravine after hitting a Probox car due to a break failure.

Seven passengers including a driver on the Probox car and more than 10 passengers on the highway bus, died on the spot, said Ko Htike from Kawkareik Palephyu Social Organization.

Social organizations, military personnel, police members and fire services members from Myawady, Kawkareik and Thingannyinaung, rushed to the scene and sent the victims to Myawady District People’s Hospital.

The passengers on the highway bus are migrant workers who will work in Thailand under a MoU.

In May, 2017, a passenger bus fell in a ravine, killing 22 Myanmar migrant workers who went back to Thailand after the Thingyan Holidays.
