Ten million more doses of Covid-19 vaccines and another four million doses are due to arrive in Myanmar in October and November respectively, according to the ministry of health.
As per the sales contract on the purchase of 24 million doses of the China-made Sinopharm Covid-19, four million doses arrived at Yangon International Airport on September 12 and four million more on September 26. Therefore, eight million doses have been received so far, the health ministry reported.
Till September 26, Myanmar had received a total of 14 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines—two million doses of Covishield, 10 million doses of Sinopharm and two million doses of Sinovac.
It has been targeted to vaccinate 20% of the population by September, 50% by the end of this year and 70% by mid-2022.
As India could not import Covishield vaccine doses in time as earlier agreed in the agreement, Myanmar took measures to obtain vaccines from China and Russia.
The health ministry has urged the people who have received Covid jabs to continue to follow the preventive rules and disciplines such as wearing face masks, washing hands and social distancing.
Those vaccinated can have 0.02% to 0.5% chances of infection, according to the ministry.
