Within two days a total of 135 Covid-19 cases were detected in Myeik, Taninthayi Region, and most of them had come from Yangon Region, according to hospital sources.
Those who were to go on travel and those who had come to Myeik by air and by land were tested for Covid-19 on February 11 and 12, and a total of 135 persons were found to be positive. Most of those travelling were found to have come from Yangon and those who had come via Yangon. Those infected are now being kept in quarantine in Myeik Hospital and in hotels.
One social welfare member said, "Those who had come to The Ingu meditation centre were found to have been infected. On the first day there were 72 cases, and on the second day there were 42 cases. It was learnt that they had come from Yangon and Pathein in Ayeyawady Region. No report has come for February 13. Tests are still being conducted. In The Ingu Yeiktha alone has reported over 100 cases. They are being given treatment at Myeik Hospital ".
Upon testing those who had come to The Ingu Yeiktha on February 11, a total of 72 persons were found to have been infected with the coronavirus. In addition 12 persons coming from Yangon by air, three others relating to them, and one person going on travel from Myeik totalling 88 were found to have been infected.
Upon further testing of those at The Ingu Yeiktha on February 12, an additional 42 persons were found to have been infected. Of these, three had come from Yangon by air, two from Myeik going on travel totalling 47 cases. In the past couple of days those who were going to Kawkthaung from Yangon by air were tested at the Kawkthaung airport, and as there were many found to have infected the entire plane load of passengers had to be kept in quarantine.
