The Mon State Government and the United Nations Resident Coordinator discussed plans for providing humanitarian assistance, implementing development programs and improving socio-economic conditions in the region, according to reports.
The meeting was held on the afternoon of August 10 at the Mon State Government Office in Mawlamyine. The Mon State Government delegation, led by Chief Minister U Aung Win Than, met with Ms. Gwyn Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator, to discuss areas in which UN agencies could provide assistance and support.
The Mon State Government discussed cooperation with UN agencies on key areas including regional development, tourism development, disaster preparedness and response, and health-related activities.
Representatives of the UN agencies, meanwhile, discussed the provision of humanitarian assistance, implementation of development initiatives, efforts to improve local socio-economic conditions, and programs currently being supported by UN agencies.
The two sides also discussed measures to ensure that assistance activities between the Mon State Government and UN agencies can be carried out systematically and without obstruction, as well as ways to further strengthen cooperation.
