A delegation led by U Htein Lin, Chairman of the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), also known as the Mongla group, paid a courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing at the Parlour of the Office of the State President in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of August 11.

The meeting was attended by State President U Min Aung Hlaing, Vice President U Nyo Saw, National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Coordination Committee Chairman Lieutenant General Yar Pyae, Secretary Lieutenant General Min Naing, Lieutenant General Kyaw Ko Htaik from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, and other officials. The NDAA delegation included Vice Chairmen U San Pe and U San Lu, General Secretary U Kyi Myint and Secretary U Aik Pan, led by Chairman U Htein Lin.

During the meeting, the NDAA Chairman expressed the pride and pleasure of the NDAA, the Special Region (4) Peace and Solidarity Committee and ethnic people throughout the region over the election of U Min Aung Hlaing as State President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He also discussed the NDAA Mongla group’s more than three decades of following the policy of “Peace, Unity and Development” and its ability to maintain good relations with successive governments.

He further explained that the NDAA Mongla group would continue maintaining regular contact with the State Government and work to further strengthen mutual trust and cooperation. He said the group would continue contributing to national stability and peace as well as the development of border areas. He also expressed the wish that the State President would continue supporting the socioeconomic development of ethnic people in the Mongla region.

The NDAA Chairman also briefed the meeting on the group’s discussions with the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Coordination Committee, noting that the talks had produced positive and constructive results.

The  President, in turn, explained that the State was working toward achieving lasting peace in accordance with the 2008 Constitution. He discussed opportunities for ethnic armed organizations to participate in efforts for the benefit of the country and local communities.

He also said the government would provide necessary support to further improve transportation and connectivity for the comprehensive development of the Mongla region. In addition, he discussed plans to support the development of education in the region by providing teachers and basic infrastructure, upgrade hospitals to improve healthcare services, and provide healthcare personnel and medical equipment.
