Flooding and landslides have occurred again due to continuous heavy rainfall in Mogok, while cracks have appeared on roads connecting the eastern and western parts of the town, causing sections of the roads to collapse.

In view of the cracking and collapse of roadside, the Parami Social Assistance Association has urged locals to exercise extreme caution when traveling through dangerous areas. The Western Fire Brigade, Red Cross Society, Lokahita Social Assistance Association and Parami Social Assistance Association are also jointly providing timely security, assistance and rescue services along the affected routes.

On August 5, heavy rainfall caused retaining walls to collapse in Panma Ward and Aung Thit Lwin Ward in Mogok, damaging three houses and injuring one person. On the morning of August 7, retaining walls collapsed again in Kabar Aye Ward and Kyatpyin Bodi Kone Ward, damaging another house, according to the Parami Social Assistance Association.

“Many roads in the town are already flooded with runoff from the hills, and the water is flowing strongly. The roof structure at the stairway descending from Phaung Taw Oo Pagoda in the town centre has become tilted due to the heavy rain and is beginning to collapse. It is still raining,” a Mogok resident said.

Vehicles traveling on the Mogok-Mandalay Road have also been stranded due to landslides, according to reports.

“Yesterday, landslides occurred at around six locations between Mileposts 83 and 99 near Sein Kone Village on the Mogok-Mandalay Road, causing the road to be blocked. Today, I don’t know the exact locations, but landslides are still occurring, so vehicles traveling both uphill and downhill cannot pass. Some vehicles are stranded on the road,” said an official from a private express vehicle association operating on the Mogok-Mandalay route.
