Frequent traffic congestion on the Myanmar–Thailand border’s Myawady–Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 1 has prompted authorities to take action against vehicles parked in violation of regulations on the bridge, including suspending their right to cross the bridge.

Traffic congestion has been occurring on the Mae Sot side of the Myawady–Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 1 due to vehicles being parked improperly. To prevent travel delays, authorities have installed visible signboards and issued notices outlining rules that drivers must follow.

The regulations require vehicles crossing the bridge not to cross the centre line and stop on the left side, park at an angle, or double-park under any circumstances.

Drivers waiting for entry stamps before entering Mae Sot are also required to queue properly on the left side and are prohibited from overtaking vehicles ahead before completing the stamping process.

Vehicles and drivers violating the regulations will face penalties, including suspension of bridge crossing privileges for one week for the first violation, one month for the second violation, and up to three months for the third violation.

Authorities also stated that action will be taken against rule-breaking vehicles if members of the public submit photographic evidence and complaints. Drivers have been urged to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly.

Officials said strict monitoring will be carried out to prevent violations as displayed on the signboards.

Traffic congestion on Myawady–Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 1 has caused difficulties for student transport vehicles carrying students studying in Thailand, as well as emergency rescue vehicles. Around 2,000 Myanmar citizens cross the bridge daily by vehicles to travel to Thailand.
