Myanmar’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and India’s Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) held discussions on strengthening cooperation in pharmaceutical standards during the second Joint Working Group meeting in New Delhi from 27 to 29 July.

The meeting brought together a Myanmar delegation led by FDA Director-General Dr Swe Set and officials from the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, including Secretary-cum-Scientific Director Dr V. Kalaiselvan.

The two sides discussed measures to expand bilateral cooperation on pharmaceutical standards. Key topics included the adoption and recognition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia, collaboration on medicine quality and standards, technical exchanges between pharmaceutical testing laboratories, capacity building for professional personnel, and strengthening pharmaceutical quality assurance and regulatory systems in line with international standards.

According to the Ministry of Health, the second Joint Working Group meeting marked an important step in reinforcing pharmaceutical cooperation between Myanmar and India. The discussions are expected to support continued technical collaboration on pharmaceutical standards and improve public access to safe, effective and quality-assured medicines.
