The 10.5-megawatt Kanyin Hydropower Project in Ingapu Township, Ayeyawady Region, is expected to supply electricity to more than 10,000 households while also supporting the agricultural sector, according to the Ayeyawady Region Government.

The announcement followed an inspection visit by the Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister and regional officials to the Kanyin Reservoir project site on July 22.

Being developed by Hydro Power Co., Ltd., the project features three 3.5 MW horizontal Francis turbines with a combined installed capacity of 10.5 MW. During the visit, company officials briefed the delegation on the project's progress, annual electricity generation capacity of approximately 35.774 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), arrangements for connecting the plant to the national power grid, and the overall construction status.

According to the regional government, the project will not only enhance irrigated agriculture but also strengthen electricity supply and contribute to regional development. Based on an estimated household consumption of 100 kWh per month, the plant's annual output will be sufficient to provide electricity to around 10,500 households.

To integrate the power generated by the project into the national grid, a 33/66 kV substation is under construction in Htoogyi Town, Ingapu Township. The Chief Minister and accompanying officials also inspected the progress of the substation and the connection works to the 66 kV Myanaung–Hinthada No. 1 transmission line.
