Heavy rainfall and water from nearby mountains have caused flooding in parts of Bilin Township, Mon State, following a rise in the water level of the Bilin River, according to official reports.
Flooding began on the morning of July 10, affecting several low-lying areas in Ward No. 7 of Kanthaya Ward.
Officials, including the acting chairman of the Bilin Township Administration and Management Committee, Police Lieutenant Colonel Min Tin, Deputy Township Administrator U Wathan Oo, departmental personnel, and members of the military, carried out rescue and evacuation operations in the affected areas.
During the rescue effort, 171 people from 25 flood-affected households in Kanthaya Ward No. 7 were evacuated and relocated to a temporary flood relief shelter at the township sports hall, the report said.
