The National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army–Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) held talks on coordinating efforts to improve transportation networks, facilitate the smooth flow of goods, and maintain peace and stability in their respective areas, according to reports.
The meeting took place on the morning of July 6 at the Shwe San Eain Hotel in Naypyidaw.
The NSPNC delegation was led by Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing, together with members of the negotiation committee. The KNU/KNLA-PC delegation included Vice Chairman Dr. Naw K’Paw Htoo, Secretary-1 Saw Kyaw Nyunt, Central Executive Committee members Saw Aung Kaung Shwe and Saw Aw Bar, and Economic Affairs Head Saw David.
During the discussions, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae stated that the KNU/KNLA Peace Council has been a longstanding partner in cooperation efforts. He emphasized the importance of working together to ensure regional peace and stability, improve transportation links, and enable the efficient and orderly flow of goods. He also called for open and constructive discussions on regional development.
In response, KNU/KNLA-PC Vice Chairman Dr. Naw K’Paw Htoo expressed appreciation for the government’s invitation to continue participating in the peace process. He said he was pleased that opportunities for dialogue remained available and noted that peace could be achieved more easily through sincerity and mutual trust. He added that all parties should continue working together, while also openly presenting their needs, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and regional development, where support from the state is required.
Participants subsequently discussed continued implementation of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), sustained efforts to prevent armed clashes in the region, and government support for public health, education, and development initiatives. They also discussed the provision of textbooks and teaching materials for schools in the Htokawkoe area, access to clean drinking water and water purification systems, supplies of malaria prevention and treatment medicines, influenza vaccines, tuberculosis medications, improvements in transportation and trade routes, and coordinated efforts to maintain regional peace and stability.
NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing later explained that the committee places strong emphasis on reducing conflicts and achieving peace through stability. He outlined plans under the new government to advance peace processes with ethnic armed organizations that are signatories to the NCA, groups that have deviated from the NCA framework, and organizations that have not signed the agreement. He also stressed the need for organizations to effectively manage their subordinate units to prevent local conflicts and highlighted the importance of bilateral dialogue as a means of identifying constructive approaches to peace.
Following the discussions, both sides coordinated the drafting of meeting records and formally signed them to confirm the agreements reached.
The meeting concluded with remarks of appreciation by Dr. Naw K’Paw Htoo and closing remarks by NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. Commemorative gifts were exchanged before the talks were officially adjourned.
The National Solidarity and Peace-Making Central Committee, led by the President of Myanmar, has stated that ending armed conflict and resolving political issues through political means are essential to the peace process. To support national development and stability, the committee issued Announcement No. 1/2026 on April 21, 2026, inviting all relevant stakeholders to participate in peace talks without preconditions.
