A Myanmar migrant worker who suffered serious injuries after being accidentally splashed with acid at a workplace in Thailand has lodged a complaint with the Social Security Office after his employer allegedly told him that wages would only be paid if he returned to work.
According to the Labour Attaché Office, U Saw Kyi Lin sustained severe injuries to his body and eyes while working at a factory in Samut Sakhon Province. Although he received medical treatment, he continues to suffer from the effects of his injuries and remains unable to return to work.
The worker reportedly sought assistance after his employer informed him that he would only receive his wages if he resumed work despite his ongoing medical condition.
On 19 June, the Labour Attaché and a team accompanied the injured worker to the Samut Sakhon Social Security Office, where they met officials and assisted in negotiations regarding his case.
The Labour Attaché Office said it had coordinated with the relevant authorities to ensure that, if doctors determine he requires further medical leave, he will receive all wages and social security benefits to which he is legally entitled during the period he is unable to work.
Myanmar migrant workers facing employment-related issues in Thailand are encouraged to seek assistance from the Labour Attaché Office and its regional representatives through official contact channels during office hours.
