A police constable assigned to security duties at the Mon State Hluttaw was allegedly abducted and taken to be sold as a fisherman in Mon State, according to local reports.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 19 June when Constable Zaw Win Htun visited Naga Mauk Pagoda in Mawlamyine. While sitting alone at the pagoda, he was approached by three unidentified men who ordered him to accompany them. After he identified himself as a policeman and refused, one of the men, claiming to be a major, allegedly slapped him and forcibly took him away.

The group reportedly transported him by motorcycle to Kyaikkhami in Thanbyuzayat Township, where he was delivered to the home of a labour broker at around 8 pm. The suspects then allegedly demanded an advance payment of Ks1.2 million.

However, the broker became suspicious of the situation and directed the constable to the local police station, where he reported the incident.

Police later raided the broker’s residence and arrested three suspects: Tin Than, 51; Tin Min Htut, 46; and Phyo Ko Ko, 38, all from Mawlamyine. Two motorcycles and a military recruitment assistant identification card bearing Tin Than’s name were also seized. Authorities are investigating whether the card is genuine or forged.

The suspects are being held at Kyaikkhami Police Station while an anti-human trafficking police unit in Mawlamyine conducts further investigations.
