The National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee and the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) held talks in Nay Pyi Taw on June 12, focusing on peace-building, political dialogue, regional development, and cooperation against online scams and drug trafficking.

During the meeting, committee chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said the government had restructured its peace-related committees in April 2026 and remains committed to an inclusive peace process without preconditions. He stressed the importance of continued engagement with ethnic organizations, cooperation against cybercrime, and preparations for a future peace framework following the planned multi-party general election.

SSPP Vice Chairman (2) Sao Khun Hsai said peace is essential and reiterated the group’s long-standing position that political problems should be resolved through political means. He added that the SSPP would focus on practical issues and continue efforts to build mutual trust.

Both sides discussed building a democratic federal union based on equality and self-determination, preventing armed clashes, promoting regional development, combating online scams and narcotics, and strengthening cooperation to preserve stability and peace.

The discussions also covered mechanisms to monitor ceasefire agreements, resolve disputes through dialogue, and establish a joint body capable of responding quickly to issues such as drug trafficking, online gambling, online fraud, and territorial disputes.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks from both delegations and an exchange of commemorative gifts. The government’s peace committee has previously invited all relevant stakeholders to participate in peace talks without preconditions, emphasizing that political dialogue is the key to ending armed conflict and achieving lasting peace.
