A man was shot dead in Mon State’s Ye Township after two gunmen opened fire on him at his home shop in Hnit Kayin village, according to local residents.

The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on May 18 in the station ward of Hnit Kayin village. Residents said 58-year-old U Zaw Lwin was inside his home shop when two armed men arrived and shot him.

“One of the locals said the two gunmen pretended to be customers before shooting U Zaw Lwin. He suffered a gunshot wound near his left ear and another to his left cheek, and died inside the shop,” a resident said.

Locals also said U Zaw Lwin was a ward administrative official in the station ward of Hnit Kayin village and a retired member of the military.

His body was later transported to Lamine Station Hospital by the Hnit Kayin Social Assistance Association. Authorities are reportedly investigating the case and planning legal action against those responsible.

In a similar incident on May 14, the bodies of three men with gunshot wounds to the head were discovered near the Ma Shi Kha Na Pagoda on the Thanbyuzayat–Ye road in Thanbyuzayat Township.
