Three young men accused of abducting and assaulting a youth under the pretense of sending him for military service were arrested in Aye Thar Yar, Taunggyi Township, according to sources.
The incident occurred near the Aye Thar Yar reservoir embankment on the evening of May 10, when a young man identified as Ko Dain Daung was allegedly forced into a vehicle by three men.
The suspects reportedly lured him by offering two baskets of rice in exchange for identifying individuals allegedly connected to drug activities.
According to reports, once the victim entered the vehicle, the suspects handcuffed him behind his back and bound his legs with chains. They then drove him to a remote forest area between Hopong and Loilen townships, where they allegedly told him they would “sell” him to the military.
The victim said he was repeatedly beaten with rubber batons and punched in the face by the group.
As a result of the assault, Ko Dain Daung reportedly suffered four broken upper front teeth, swelling around his left eye, and bruises on his right arm and back.
The victim later managed to seek help from security personnel when the suspects attempted to transport him back toward Aye Thar Yar Police Station and stopped at a checkpoint near the outskirts of Taunggyi.
“A case was opened the same night of the incident on May 10. The suspects have been charged under Sections 325, 365, and 114,” an official from Aye Thar Yar Police Station said.
The three suspects — identified as Aung Lwan Wai, Aung Ko, and Ko Htwe — were arrested along with a gray Daihatsu Gino vehicle allegedly used in the crime.
Authorities have opened a case against them at Aye Thar Yar Area Police Station under Section 325 for causing grievous injury, Section 365 for unlawful abduction and confinement, and Section 114 for aiding and abetting.
