Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan said the 14th public consultation on the Ayeyawady Myitsone hydropower project was a key step toward addressing electricity shortages and promoting regional development.
The meeting was held on April 25 at an indoor sports hall in Myitkyina, where members of the local coordination committee engaged residents in discussions about the Myitsone and upstream Ayeyawady hydropower projects.
The chief minister emphasized that such consultations help authorities better understand public concerns and gather feedback. He added that the project could create greater opportunities for future generations and urged unity and cooperation in its implementation.
Officials and committee members presented technical details, global examples of hydropower development, future energy needs, and environmental considerations. Local residents also raised concerns and asked questions, which were addressed during the session.
More than 760 people attended the event, including government officials, committee members, religious representatives, and students.
