Onion prices at the Pakokku market have increased slightly in the final days of the third week after the Thingyan festival, with buying activity also rising, according to market sources.

Before Thingyan, onions in Pakokku were selling for under 1,500 kyats per viss. Recently, prices have climbed to around 1,700 kyats per viss.

“Prices are going up again. Buyers who store onions are purchasing more, and traders are also buying medium and small sizes. As prices rise, both buyers and sellers are expected to increase in the coming days,” said an onion trader from Pakokku.

On April 20, when about 60,000 viss of onions entered the market, prices were reported at 600–900 kyats per viss for small onions, 1,000–1,300 kyats for medium ones, and 1,400–1,700 kyats for large onions.
