Heavy rains and strong winds damaged more than 1,000 houses, 13 monasteries and two schools in Zigon and Gyobingauk townships in Bago Region.

Heavy rains and strong winds caused trees to fall, houses, monasteries, schools and clinics to collapse and roofs to be torn off in Zigon Township in Nattalin District and Gyobingauk Township in Thayawady District in Bago Region on the evening of April 17. Local military personnel under the Southern Command, Myanmar Police Force members, firefighters and social organizations carried out debris clearance and necessary relief work on April 18.

Heavy rains and strong winds damaged 375 houses and 5 monasteries in the wards and village tracts of Zigon Township in Nattalin District and 10 houses collapsed in the township. In Gyobingauk Township, 639 houses, 8 monasteries, 2 schools and 1 rural clinic were damaged or destroyed, and 57 houses collapsed. No people or animals were injured.

It is understood that local military personnel under the Southern Command, Myanmar Police Force members, firefighters and social organizations have visited the affected neighborhoods and villages and worked with local residents to help move supplies, clear fallen trees, remove collapsed buildings and debris, and provide other necessary relief work.
